Markets for All

An inclusive market proposal connecting everyday trade, accessible movement and adaptable stalls.

The Karatina market proposal starts with the everyday movements of traders, customers and goods. Observations of circulation, selling structures and barriers informed a design intended to support a wider range of users within the existing market.

Developed with Teddy Mbingo, the proposal combines clearer routes with modular stalls that alternate between display and secure storage. Material choices, shared handwashing points and accessible resting places support a practical approach to incremental improvement.

The project won first prize in the Markets for All competition in November 2023 and was presented at Kenya Innovation Week.
