Lagos — The Floating Continuum

Dwelling, livelihood and collective infrastructure on the Lagos Lagoon.

The Floating Continuum studies Makoko as a water-based settlement in which homes, work and movement are closely interdependent. It starts with the spatial knowledge embedded in daily life: canoe routes, shared platforms, fish processing and the incremental construction of dwellings.

The proposal connects domestic space with shared infrastructure for washing, cooking, fish smoking, trade and care. Production clusters are located along existing movement routes, allowing residents to reach them from their homes and the water.

Timber, bamboo and lightweight construction form a strategy for adaptation and incremental upgrading. The project explores how new collective spaces can strengthen existing livelihoods while working with the settlement’s grain.
